2019 CAPG Governance Summit

2019 CAPG Governance Summit
What is Black & White and Grey all Over?
A Police Governance Dashboard
The Vancouver, BC Governance Summit was so popular it SOLD OUT. The 50 people who signed up all agreed the day was worth the time, resources and effort to attend.
Dr. Gordon McIntosh is an excellent facilitator and really pushes people to work and engage in these important discussions. One of the outcomes was the decision to take the Summit on the road to Central and Eastern Canada so we can get input from all across the country.
The next two Governance Summits will be held in:
  • London, Ontario, Thursday, February 14, 2019
  • Truro, Nova Scotia, Saturday, February 16, 2019

Once we complete the three Summits a Dashboard will be unveiled at the CAPG Conference in Calgary in August 2019. Register Now! – CLICK HERE

The Alignment Imperative
If a car is not aligned, we use excess gas, tire tread and physical energy to stay on the road. Likewise, Police Chief/Board alignment is critical for effective police governance. Learn ideas and tools to make sure you are using the roadmap (strategy) and the vehicle is running smoothly (processes).Benefits
Board Members and Police Chiefs often have tools to monitor policing services and strategies but often lack a simple means to continually assess their direct interface. Orientation, strategic and governance development efforts can be short-lived unless there are regular check-ins. This very interactive session will develop a Check-in tool for continuous attention to the Police Chief/Board interface as well as alignment with City Councils and the public. The resulting Police Governance Dashboard will be accessible through the CAPG Learning Portal, an exclusive benefit for members.

Join your colleagues in a timely discussion to:

  • Confirm need for a Police Governance Dashboard – return on effort
  • Create successful Governance expectations – success indicators
  • Identify Board/Chief interface topics – ‘real time’ participant challenges
  • Discussion of preventive & remedial strategies – take home ideas

Testimonials on CAPG 2018 Governance Summit in Vancouver
“The CAPG Summit in Vancouver provided a focus on key governance issues currently impacting boards. The facilitators challenged the group by setting the stage along with key speakers providing strategic leadership insights from the Chief and the Association perspectives. After setting the stage with a framework of strategic, policy, systems and service outcomes a series of breakouts had the group drill down into distinctions in board, chief and association responsibilities and approaches. The regional focus bringing together board members from several provinces enriched the dialogue and learning experience.”

“The Summit is considered to be good for new board members and seasoned ones.”

“The feedback from British Columbia Association of Police Boards (BCAPB) members has been highly positive, including;

  • an overall great program
  • good to participate in excellent in-depth discussions
  • great to have members from other jurisdictions we don’t normally get to see or communicate with on their perspectives on ‘our’ or other issues
  • good networking amongst our own provincial representatives
  • superb speakers, break-out session are meaningful and a good use of board members’ time

It was a refreshing way to immerse ourselves in vital aspects of governance and members look forward to the police governance dashboard that the Canada-wide process should lead to.”  BCAPB

“Having new members and senior members attend together was valuable for both; the group work which gave members a chance to hear from other Boards and senior police leaders allowed for new thoughts and ideas. We look forward to the results that will stem from the national conversation.”  Delta Police Board
